MIN Zixuan: The Progressive Road from an International Student to the CEO

Why study abroad?

I, myself, have a strong intention to study abroad and I really wanted to see the world at that time. My parents get me prepared for my second year of high school. But I did well in the college entrance examination, this plan was postponed. Before I went abroad, I was a bit foreign-loving and felt that everything in foreign countries was better. When I actually went abroad to study and live, my concept changed. I realized that the United States is good while the power of China is also rising. This is one of the reasons I returned to China after graduation.

Preliminary preparation

The preliminary preparations at that time were not complicated. All you needed to do was provide your academic records during the SWUFE period, your IELTS or TOEFL language test scores, and a round of interviews to pass. If you need to go to graduate school, then continue to prepare for other professional exams, GMAT or GRE.

Experience of studying abroad

My abroad life is not that rich, but very fulfilling. I have two very good friends, both from SWUFE. Our daily life is to study, go to the library, go to the gym, and go out on vacation. It can be said that studying abroad is the happiest time for me, with a good learning atmosphere and nice friends, helping and supporting each other in a foreign country. Our SWUFE students are very united and helpful. They all have excellent achievements in their majors.

Chinese and American cultural difference

It may be more about oneself than the difference in cultivation. In the United States, you have full freedom to choose courses, professors, and semesters to take course. You can schedule a certain course for a certain semester. My course schedule was very full at that time. Because I chose two more majors, and I didn’t want to postpone my graduation, I took full credits even in the winter and summer semesters. Another good thing is that almost all of our professors have successful careers. During class, they have more practical cases and business resources in their hands, rather than simply lecturing.

The help and change that my study abroad experience has brought me

During my time in Delaware, I really learned to endure loneliness to study, which is called "immersive learning" according to the current Internet buzzword. The strong self-learning ability has brought me a lot of convenience and advantages in my work, and I can enter the role faster than others.

I love what Steve Jobs said: Everything you learn will be useful one day. After graduating, I realized this very deeply. Many people will feel that the things they learn in college are useless, I can only say that you have not really integrated the knowledge into the society. I have studied a lot, business administration, finance, marketing, and at first glance, each one seems a little hollow, and I thought the same when I just graduated. But when I am running a business myself, my management team encounters a bottleneck, and when I continue to study, I find that what the current teachers give is the same as what I learned in college! The principle has never changed, and the logic is the same. The key is that in different periods, you will have new insights. So when it’s time to learn, learn enough, because you don’t know a certain point you learned before will help you in the future.

Last but not least, what studying abroad has brought to me is my excellent friends, who shine in their respective jobs and fields. Some of them are inspired to become American financial elites who stayed in the United States, and some are bank leaders who have returned to China to engage in the financial industry. Their excellence is also inspiring me, not to fall behind and to work harder.

Mutual encouragement

The last thing I want to share with my fellows is don't stop learning. Studying abroad is not the ultimate goal, learning is lifelong. I wish you can find your own happiness in learning.
